Balm in Gilead

There is a balm in Gilead
To make the wounded whole;
There is a balm in Gilead
To heal the sin-sick soul.

Some times I feel discouraged,
And think my work’s in vain,
But then the Holy Spirit
Revives my soul again.
(Chorus)
If you cannot sing like angels,
If you can’t preach like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus,
And say He died for all.

I posted this old beautiful hymn to appeal to those who may not be at peace in their lives right now. (I am reminded that we cannot buy peace!) Those touched with bitterness, with hostility, and with resentment. You know if this applies to YOU. It is a plea, from me, to those who struggle with grief, disappointment, guilt, shame, or just daily worries! Turn to Jesus. He will heal your wounded soul! Jesus IS the healer!

Every wound, every scar, every heartache. Each sorrow, each disappointment. Every
fear. Each worry. Each cross to carry. Every burden. Jesus is the healer! There is a balm in Gilead, my friend!

Sometimes we wound ourselves – or carry our wounds (which are burdens) and can’t put them down! Be aware if you’re doing this! Although, it’s true, there are real injustices in life – there is real suffering.  (Life Moment: Sometimes our minds make our sufferings larger than they really are). Don’t give yourself a “life sentence” of carrying these negative emotions around with you. Jesus will soothe. He can calm the roughest storm. Don’t be caught carrying around petty, silly, things! Let it go. If you find yourself brooding over an injustice – or some unresolved situation in which you were disappointed or hurt. Let it go! Look ahead. Purpose in your heart to forgive and forget! I'm not sure who wrote this hymn, but take a moment to absorb these words...

Ere you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray? …
When your soul was full of sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day?
Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day.
So, when life gets dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray
Look UP my friends!
